Hemel Azad CC v Watford Badshahs Cricket Club on Sun 28 Aug 2016 at 13:00
Watford Badshahs Cricket Club Won Reduced to 30 overs due to rain

Match report Badshahs lost the Toss and were put to bat.

After a wet outlook in the morning there was a skeptical opinion whether the game would go ahead or not, but we had Jay on the ground to confirm the ground is dry as expected.

Having no Rasheed (due to back spasms), Sannan and Jay were tasked to open the innings. Jay fell very quickly without troubling the scoreboard too much. But it didnt matter, Badshahs were reassured to play as positive can be. Hameed joined Sannan in the middle and shortly after returned, as he played a correct stroke but straight to the fielder. Ashiq was sent into support Sannan and play positive, unfortunately this was very short lived as returned to the pavillion pocketing his First Golden Duck. Kaushal was then given the order and he too returned after a short few runs. This left Sannan in despair and still at the crease having seen 4 companions come and go. Badshahs were in a bit of a bother as we were 37 for 4. But the Run rate was still positive. Vipul joined Sannan and built a solid partnership of 52, but then fell to a soft dismissal. Sardar was drafted to go next, and he played a positive cameo, and built a partnership of 35 runs before he also returned.

Sannan on the other end fighting with the tough wicket and smashed his was way to his half century. He looked composed and compact and pulled his team through to a stronger position. But departed once the captain got to the crease. The captain nudged his singles and doubles accompanied by Shail, then Imran and finally Assad. The captain fought his way to bring the Badshahs to a stronger position, leaving the opposition to chase 180 in 30 overs.

Ashiq and Sardar once again were given the new ball. And after being hit as the wicket held the ball back, Ashiq put another one in that area, and the ball was smashed straight at Koshal at short Midwicket, who held on to an immaculate catch. And the first of Ashiq's victims departed. Then in his next over Ashiq took the pace off the ball and the ball went straight up into the air, Jay was under it like a Great White Shark, and took it with ease. A run out followed next, as the Captain run out his best batsmen, once again it was Kaushal who beat the batsmen to the other end, and ripped the bails off. All of this happened in Ashiq's over. The Captain was removed quickly, having run out his prime batsmen, and the pressure of wickets, he succumbed to the pressure. And in the following over Sardar took another wicket caught and bowled. There was a lot of burden resting on Syed Ali, to relieve some pressure, but he succumbed to a reverse swinging yorker from Ashiq.

Hemel Azad were 41 for 5 in 6 overs. And then Jay chipped in. Vipul again not taking any wickets as he is having trouble keeping the ball straight, but something he will work on in the next match, he is a great bowler and will comeback. Jay further pressured the home team. Sannan and Jay brought the game to 109 for 9. Imran was also given the ball but proved very expensive and his length was all over the place.

As we feared Hemel Azad began to creep back into the game and the last wicket partnership was beginning to bring a horrific consequence. The last wicket partnership just kept getting away, and we began to lose concentration in the field. Lazy efforts from certain individuals didnt help. And the bowlers couldnt trap the batsmen to the set field.

Last over and the home team needed 10 runs to win. Abbas wasnt sure as to who to hand the ball. Abbas had a lot of pressure under him. And he looked towards his Vice and he advised him to hand the ball to Imran.

Imran began the over, 10 runs needed from 6 balls. First ball - Single, Second Ball - Single, 3rd Ball dot. At this point everyone was just hoping that Imran remains calm and keep it tight, but the worst happened. Low full toss outside the off stump, and the ball runs away between long off and deep cover. 2 Balls and Four runs needed. Everyone was getting ready to face the music. As Imran approached the delivery stride, the batsmen shimmy's down the wicket, and the ball has been released, the batsmen cocks the bat back and bends his knees, and swings hard, a full blooded shot. Everyone looking at where the ball is gone.

The keeper collects the ball and runs 3 steps forward and whips the bails off...

Excellent slower delivery executed by Imran and well collected by Sardar.

At this point Imran bowled a match winning over to push Badshahs towards victory.
