Reading East CC v Watford Badshahs Cricket Club on Sun 12 Jun 2016 at 13:00
Watford Badshahs Cricket Club Won
Match report
Watford Badshahs lost the toss and were put to field.
Surprisingly majority of the games rained off on this day, but knowing the wicket in Reading we knew this will dry up pretty fast. Although there were showers forecasted later in the day, which did made bowling difficult.
Reading East started brilliantly due to some wayward bowling by Mashooq. Who fell short of the initial game plan to keep the ball up and none of the short stuff. With the first over finishing off with 16 runs, Ashiq was given the ball to Tame the Home teams scoreboard. This was executed brilliantly and Ashiq removed the batsman that put Mashooq away in the Third Over.
Kashi and Jeff were summoned to add further pressure to the Home Team. But runs were leaking on a fast outfield, and some really poor misfields added to the Score board. Vipul was brought into the attack who bowled a really controlled over.
Bowling in a whole was not greatly supported by the field, with some lazy efforts to try and cut the boundaries, leaking extra 24 runs due to that. But the catching was back on track, with Jay and Ashiq both taking their catches, thank God there were no drop catches.
Reading Stars ended with 167 for 7 in their 20 Overs, and were pretty optimistic of defending it. At one point the opposition were boasting that they don't let teams chase 110 on this wicket, against their bowling attack. (They were hoping that their Minor County bowler Rehan Akram may come to their rescue).
And in response to that Ashiq threatened them with the following, "When our batsmen come out, they are going to come for you from all angles, and you wont find a place to hide".
Jayraj and Koshal were sent to open the innings. (A positive team talk in the dressing room, had the Badshahs shouting the room down).
After the first over where we only scored, Jay realised it was time to Smash the Bowlers apart, and he got his opportunity when the first ball of the 2nd Over was thrown short, and Jay quickly ponced on it and pulled it for a huge six over the Square Leg boundary. And he continued the onslaught and penalised the bowler for 20 runs. Reading East responded by removing the poor guy from the attack.
Jay had to take control of the innings as Koshal was having difficulty getting the bat onto the ball. Jay smashed 20 runs off the 6th Over, and made sure he gave his team a solid start before departing for 42 off 19 balls.
Sardar innings was short lived although there were high expectations from him, we were hoping that he will come through in this big chase and add some runs for his team, but he failed miserably.
As Jay departed, Abbas stepped into the crease, and as Sardar departed Shail stepped into the crease alongside his captain. Another opportunity was given to Shail although he has had a poor time in the middle in the past few games.
What happened next was absolutely magical to watch. Shail and Abbas went at the Home team from all angles, but silently. The rotation of the Strike alongside some cheeky runs between the wickets, didnt even alarm the opposition. All of a sudden Abbas, began to stroke the ball in all angles and smashing boundaries. Shail remained calm and easily rotated the strike to Abbas. These 2 were in complete control, and before long Reading East were looking at a possibility of losing the game. A great stand of 62 between Shail and Abbas, gave Badshahs CC that momentum which they needed. Sadly Shail wasnt there till the end, and played a self less shot and got caught.
Jeff joined the Captain at the crease. We needed 37 off 4, and Jeff quickly began to register boundaries under his name, playing some delicate cuts through the gaps, brought the great Inzi to my mind. And we chased the mammoth total in damp and wet conditions with nearly 2 overs to spare.
M.O.M
Abbas 57 off 32 balls 2x6's, 6x4's.
But we cant ignore the great start given by Jay, who started the onslaught with a noticable performance of
Jayraj 42 off 19 balls 3x6's, 4x4's.
Jeff at the end finishing the game in style.
A gem of a game to watch
