Watford Badshahs Cricket Club v Pak Stars on Sun 17 May 2015 at 13:00
Watford Badshahs Cricket Club Won
Match report
It was a new wicket for Badshahs, as we have been forced to take up the King Georges wicket. Unsure of how the wicket plays out we were pretty confused as to how we will approach if we won the toss.
Anyway Pak Stars came onto the ground feeling pretty confident. And went away with Abbas to Toss the coin. After winning the Toss alot of discussion took place if we should bat or bowl first. Senior players were approached and their opinion was asked.
We went ahead and gave the Bat to Pak Stars, to see how the wicket plays out.
We opened once again with Shezad and Mashooq. Shezad's first over looked pretty steady, but Mashooq started again with a poor over.. having no pace at the wicket didnt help him much.
As it seemed to Pak Stars that they were going really well, and to be fair it was an aggressive start, after 3 overs they were on 18 runs.. they thought it was going to be easy.. Until Badshah's began to retaliate.. and what a retaliation it was..
After giving Mashooq and Shezad 2 overs each, Badshahs thought that it was time for the two of them to swap ends, so we had to bring in our special weapon, who bowls bullets.. Kashi Habib.
He entered the crease bowling with express pace, that our keeper was left shaking his hand every time. Pak Stars began to panic, and their batsmen immediately were taken by surprise, throwing their bats blindly at the ball. It was a maiden over.
Then followed Shazad from his new end with an equally impressive over, but with a wicket. Badshahs thought it was time to remind Pak Stars who they are up against.
To compliment Shezad's over, Mashooq came from his new end and quickly took a wicket, Pak Stars all of a sudden were hit really hard by the Badshahs. They asked the questions with the runs, and Badshahs began answering them with wickets.
Next few overs that followed were Maidens and more wickets were falling for the Away team. All of a sudden a score of 50 runs began to look difficult.
It began more difficult as Badshahs rotated their bowlers. In any other games the opening bowlers are deadly and teams defend the openers, and start to pick up the pace against the first change.
Pak Stars were also thinking the same, but unfortunately for them, it just got tougher, with Kashi steaming in one end and throwing Bullets and Ashiq on the other end throwing bouncers.. they just couldnt settle.
Then the platform was set for the spinners, Jeff and Jay were introduced into the attack.
With Sardar Naveed diving in the point region and stopping some blinders was just adding insult to injury.. And things began to look even worse for the away team.
And then Arslan trying to sneak one through the air past Shail Patel through the Gullie region, was a BAD MISTAKE, Shail diving to his left with one hand took an absolute amazing catch.. Picture perfect. The whole team went running to him and celebrated for a while.
So we were now well into the middle and tail of the Pak Stars, it was time to bring back Shezad and give him a chance to rip through the tail..
And it is just what he did, he ripped through the tail with a hat trick, with some amazing bowling, Pak Stars were left high and dry.. 107/10.
With some awesome bowling from Shezad and Kashi in particular who was pretty unlucky to have just had one wicket.
Badshahs began the chase, Abbas and Raza were sent to open the innings. Very quickly their bowlers found it difficult to control their line. And our tally was being fed with extras.
Abbas was a victim of an LBW decision, and returned to the dressing room. And in went Kaushal batting for the first time after a years break. Looked solid but then began to throw his bat wildly. Whilst on the other side Raza was undone by the pitch and returned to the team.
Jay was sent in to see the game home, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be and he found himself on the receiving end of the Death finger.
Sardar was given the opportunity to go and bring this one home. To our delight he looked pretty much in control for the first 20 mins. But on the other side Kaushal just lost himself to a suicidal run out. And returned to the Hut.
Shail was sent in with clear instructions 'Finish the game, and see it all the way'. He built a solid partnership with Sardar and began to show his maturity. The partnership ended after Sardar stepped out to one too many and was finally stumped.
Jeff was sent in to assist Shail Patel, and Shail took control of the innings and finished the game confidently without too many losses.
Overall we gave our wickets away, except for Raza who was undone by the wicket. We lost 3 extra wickets. But what counts is that we won. Shail again saw the game home, and played an innings for the team.
Man of the Match has to go to Shezad for his 5/13. And Kashi also bowled a really tight spell.
