Woking Tigers v Watford Badshahs Cricket Club on Sun 10 May 2015 at 13:00
Watford Badshahs Cricket Club Won
Match report
Badshahs were eagerly looking forward to this fixture against Woking Tigers, it has been 3 years since the Lions and the Tigers met, and it was a huge clash. We weren't expecting anything different today either.
With the umpire calling in absent we decided to go ahead with the proceedings
Abbas went ahead and won the toss, on a very peculiar track. We decided to put Woking Tigers into bat first as we had no neutral umpire, because we wanted to be as fair as they were.
Shazad was given the new ball.. And very quickly he created a chance and it was put down. Mashooq was given the new ball on the other side, where his first over was wayward.
Shazad then continued to display a very controlled over to cover up his partners error. Mashooq then had to bring himself back into the game, he had the Tigers skipper in his line of fire.. who cut the ball through the air trying to pierce the Gullie/Point region. To the bitter disappointment of the batsmen, we had Shail patrolling that region and once again he literally pulled off a miraculous catch.. the batsmen could not believe it and neither could we.. the team ran to Shail and grabbed and celebrated that wicket for a few minutes..
Mashooq then went on to grab another wicket in the 6th over..
Partnerships were developing, and Shazad was wicket less in his opening spell. So bowling changes came in. Abbas decided to take the ball one end and Jeff at the other. Very quickly Abbas with his golden arm, took a wicket thanks to Jay holding on to one just at backward point. Jeff took one as soon as he came on, it was gloved on the leg side and Raza done a great job holding onto it.
With some tight overs and some loose overs, the Home team didnt look to score more than 170. And they were restricted to 160/10.
So we has a chase on our hands against a young team, whose bowling attack is pretty impressive also.
Abbas and Raza went in. Very quickly Abbas took the bowler on, and hitting the ball towards the covers very hard. Until he broke loose and began scoring the boundaries, with Raza playing the supportive role. Until Abbas threw his bat to a very poor delivery, and gave his wicket, was sent back to the Hut. Raza quickly followed him, and Hameed came out to inspect the pitch and went hurrying back to the dressing room also. From 25/1 to 30/3.
We had a collapse on our hands, and Jayraj standing at the crease we decided to send Shail to accompany him.. And as Shail went in, he looked at the coach, and said "I wont let you down".
So Jay and Shail began settling in, and very quickly Jay opened the field up with his stroke play, with some well timed shots. And then Jay just went into a completely different mode, we saw some of the biggest sixes, they were high and long.. sailing over the Long ons and Long offs. They were shots of a very confident batsmen. Bowling changes began flowing through, but Jay just was not phased at all. With Shail holding one end secure, it gave Jay all the right reasons to absolutely break the opposition. The slip cordon was asking Jay alot of questions earlier.. to which Jay ignored. But after the blistering shots, they lost their voices.
It was absolutely amazing to watch. Bilal steaming in with all his pace, Shail dispatched him with a cracking straight drive for a boundary, and then gave Jay the strike who pulled him for a 6 over Mid wicket.
Unfortunately Jay was not to see this one home, and was run out. With him and Shail pulling Badshahs back into the game and putting up a paship of 90 runs, Jay departed which made way for Jeff to enter the crease.
Jeff began very slowly and cautiously, but it wasnt too long before he opened his account of sixes, as he looked very strong, whilst Shail was holding the other end, Jeff just got too carried away and gave his wicket away. Then entered Sardar, who just wanted to see what time it was, as he returned after facing 3 balls. A little collapse, with 15 runs needed.. Ashiq was sent in to go and see this home with Shail. And they both did just that.
We ended up losing more wickets than we should have. Apart from Hameed, we gave our wickets away.
The highlight of the game was once again Jayraj's batting, maybe because his newly born son Jayann was there along with his mother Anna, that Jay wanted to impress them.
Man of the Match goes to Jayraj for his brilliant knock of 62 off 45 balls 5x4's 5x6's
