Watford Badshahs Cricket Club v Luton Shahenshah on Sun 01 Jun 2014 at 13:00
Watford Badshahs Cricket Club Won
Match report
On a day where there was some speculation of light showers a few days back... We had the best conditions to play cricket since the beginning of the season. It was warm, there was a bright sun, just picture perfect.
We won the toss, and after a few moments.. we quickly gave the heads up to bat first.
We had Danny and Abbas(c) opening the innings. Zubair Shah had the new ball, and his intentions were not good. Quickly knocking over Danny on his third delivery, he opened his account. Badshahs have not yet put a score on the board. Then after a few knocks here and there, Abbas also fell victim to Zubair, being caught at the covers. In went Jeff, already having 2 major failures under his belt, things were looking shaky. Then Naveed falls victim yet again to the might of Zubair Shah, being caught at the covers. He has taken our first 3 batsmen, game on. Then Shail goes in hoping to just try and hit himself in form or some sort of composure, he edges one straight to first slip. At this stage 4/52, does not look encouraging with only 7 overs down. In goes Gully.. in the 7th over, to stabilise and bring composure to the Badshahs. He builds a solid partnership of 37, before losing his woodwork. Surprisingly Jeff is still there, no not leg umpiring, he is actually at the crease batting. Jeff looks as if he has something nasty up his sleeve? In goes Ashiq Shah, after selling his stumps for an rotten egg, in the previous game, he somehow has to recover the badshahs, and help Jeff in his quest. The key here was to build partnership, and rotate the strike, keep Jeff on strike.. but dont let the pressure build up. They began putting pressure on the fielders.. and taking some quick singles between the wickets.. Ashiq stayed there until he fell a victim to a horrendous run out, Jeff was ball watching, and Ashiq lost his stumps with a partnership of 64 Badshahs were 153 off 26.4 overs, things were looking like 300. Then went Assad, and he also aided Jeff..
And a few balls later, it finally happened Badshahs and Shahenshahs looked on as they witnessed Jeff hit his maiden, he is the 3rd Badshah to achieve this, well deserved, and well played, the time he pulled this off, he couldnt make the team any more proud. Everyone clapped and Congratulated him, even the Shahenshah players including Taz. Look at that for sportsmanship.
Then eventually losing his wicket on 105 (94). Leaving his team in a very strong position 179/8 30.6 overs gone.
Assad played a few, but ran himself which was disgusting to watch. Kashi zcontributed and so did Rehman, Mashooq went for an egg.
Then Shahenshah were left to chase 192, and 193 to win. They opened their batting with their high profile players, who were especially brought to play this game.
Kashif was given the new ball, letting the pitch control the ball, Shahenshah batsmen, had the same plan and approach to this as they did against Reading Stars. But we were well aware of that. So we had a plan of our own.
With Assad keeping the stumps, things were looking uneasy, as there were many who thought he was not upto the task, on the field and off the field.
Mashooq was given the new ball at the other end, and the plan was to bounce them out, and scare them a little. Did Mashooq scare them. Nadeem edges one straight up, and Mashooq takes the catch off his own bowling.
Then comes Saif to the crease, Kashi and Mashooq are operating just as we planned. We wanted the new batsman Saif to face Mashooq. And Mashooq quickly began bowling some Jaffas, swinging a mile out... he threw one short and Saif unfortunately too late to respond, gloves one straight to first slip (Abbas Shah). And then Kashi joined in the fun, this was amazing to watch, handing Shammas his Golden Duck.
And then Rehman takes out Kashi with an LBW, he too is bouncing them out they are absolutely bamboozled, and cant believe the pace and bounce they are being victims of.
Khalim Khan, came on to the pitch with the intention to soak up the overs, and make a base for the hitters.. but we began to drain their boundary scoring abilities, therefore run rate was creeping to 8, with Zubair in the crease, the Shahenshah were holding on to hope.
Until Kashi was brought back again, and he takes out Khalim, he hits it straight back to Kashi, Kashi doesnt put this down.. And Shahenshah have crumbled, but they still have Zubair.
Captain gives the ball to Ashiq, to return for his second spell. And he begins to completely drain their runs, and Zubair is struggling to get off strike. Eventually Ashiq pins him down and Zubair is caught PLUM infront of the wicket, after facing a soaring ball that nearly took his head off. And thats it Shahenshah were now finished, as Ashiq immediately takes out their other batsmen. With just 1 wicket to go Shahenshah had no hope against the Clock work orchestrated by the Badshah Club. Kashi finishes their innings by bowling out Nayyar.
Assad kept awesome, he had not worn the gloves for atleast 2 years, and alot of questions were being thrown at the captain, during the warm up period. But they did not know what we know.. He is a Badshah.
He saved atleast 30 runs.. which were on the legside, he dived and stopped the ball. He was even standing up to Jeff's bowling. The runs were soaked up mainly by him. He drained the Shahenshahs. All the players that doubted him are now praising.. A bit too much to be honest :P But job well done.
Shahenshah were gone... finished.
It was an awesome game, it was only cricket, but we had a score to settle with the Shahenshahs, as they beat us one game, and we never had the oppportunity tio play another fixture. It is the Badshah way to always defeat those that have defeated them.
Highlights were Jeff's century - easily man of the match..
Assad's keeping which was amazing, he shut up all critics, on the field and off the field.
Ashiq's p'ship and solid defence.
Gully's p'ship and defence
Mashooq's Bowling 2-19 5 overs
Ashiq's second spell 1-21 8 overs
Kashi overall 3-32 8 overs.
